Reiki therapy at Twickenham therapy clinic
Reiki is one of the most popular alternative or complementary therapies out there.
Commonly called energy healing, it dates back to the late 19th century. While
the term and specific practices of Japanese reiki are fairly modern, the practice
of energy healing is considerably older, dating back centuries across a wide
range of ancient cultures. So why is this form of spiritual healing so popular?
Reiki comes from the Japanese word ‘rei’, meaning ‘universal’,
and ‘ki’, meaning ‘life energy’. Completely unaffiliated
with any religion or belief system, reiki involves harnessing and healing
the life energy flowing inside all of us. This makes it a culturally and universally
accessible form of spiritual treatment. The overarching aim of reiki is to
restore a person’s energy to balance, ensuring their mind and body are
strong, positive and healthy.
Reiki as a treatment
Reiki is an all-encompassing complementary therapy but is primarily known
for easing stress and tension, helping the body to reach a state in which
it can heal mentally, emotionally and even physically. It is often referred
to as an effective method of spiritual healing and self-improvement, inducing
feelings of peace and overall well-being.
For some, reiki can even help
to reduce physical symptoms, such as pain or fatigue. It can also help clients
to cope with mental health struggles, including anxiety, stress and depression,
with regular sessions helping to boost the client’s mood and instil
a more positive outlook on life. Best of all, it is a natural and non-invasive
form of treatment, perfect for those who prefer a more holistic approach
to health and self-care.
What to expect during reiki treatment
If you have never experienced reiki or any other type of energy healing
treatment, you may be wondering what to expect during a reiki session. Prior
to the treatment itself, your practitioner will have a detailed discussion
with you about any issues you may have and what you are hoping to achieve
out of your treatment.
A typical session lasts anywhere from 20 minutes
to an hour and a half where you will be lying down on a massage table or
sitting comfortably in a chair. Unlike traditional massage therapy, you
will be fully clothed throughout the entire process as it is not so much
the physical body but rather your energy that is being treated.
If you are attending a reiki session to deal with a specific problem area,
your practitioner may focus their hands and energy on that part of the body.
The practitioner will move their hands across specific points in the body,
either hands on or hands off for those who do not wish to be touched.
Some
clients will find that their goals are accomplished in one or only a couple
of sessions, whereas others will benefit from a series of regular sessions
in order to reap the benefits. However many sessions you need, you are sure
to feel rejuvenated and relaxed after every treatment.
